Note: My light weight spinning rod and reel is equipped with my new Nylon Lure Rod Tip Vibrator, that gives that (extra action) to any lure, in the last picture note the lure in the back of the stripers mouth. Good Day on Lanier This is my good friend Rick Posted by Picasa

What triggers that strike ? ? ?

,What triggers that strike? I’ve been trying to figure that out for the past 15 years. I was at Bass Pro shops a couple of months ago and watched as they were feeding the fish in the large aquarium with hands full of stunned threadfin shad. The bass and other fish would rush in and pick off the shad with a rush but not the Gar they would slowly ease up in to where the action was come up beside a minnow and with one traffic fast side motion grab it and slowly move off. I saw one large catfish come up and bite off part of the shad that was sticking out of a gars mouth. I think you have to put your lure in just the right place to get that strike. So presentation is important. I’ve tried lots of things like sent spray even WD40, chumming, different colors on my lures fast and slow retrieves. Last year while sitting at the controls and blind casting my line on my open faced spinning rod and reel was touching the railing that goes around the side of my pontoon boat The tip of my rod was jumping up and down as I brought the lure in it had a very sharp wiggle and shimmy to it That’s when a gar shot out from nowhere and nailed the wiggling thing. That’s when it hit me, like a light bulb turning on. Fix something on to the rod that would make this happen. So now I have a gadget that really works. It will put a wiggle and shimmy to that nylon lure that’s impossible to get any other way. I’ve been using this for a long time and I believe it has improved my ratio of hits at least 50 % It’s easy to snap it on your open face spinning rod (that’s the only place it will work) I call it my (Automatic Rod Tip Vibrator) Automatic because all you have to do is reel in The Gadget does all the work. If you don’t want to use it simply move the pick up arm up and out of the way. Or remove the whole thing. And that’s not all. The thing also works on any other lure you use It puts that extra action on any lure. I catch a lot of fish off of my dock under a light at night, mostly in the winter time using a crank bait like the deep diving rattle trap, and the “gadget” puts that extra wiggle, and it will dart from side to side. I’ve caught a lot of stripers, bass and crappie with it. This thing was made to put that extra wiggle and shimmy to the nylon lures I use them on all my Gar fishing rods now. I’m sure if you try it you will like it. And I’ll send you your money back if you don’t. I’m going to put some kits together and on my web site, just fill out the order blank and send it to me. There will be introductions price through July 2005 of $2.00 a kit plus $1.00 S & H. After that I’ll have to charge more. There is a picture of the kit (3 pieces) on my blog site. It comes with complete instructions, easy to install fits all sizes of open faced spinning rods.

This is another view of the Automatic Rod Tip Vibrator installed on a rod. You wan't beleive the action it creates on the rod tip, down the line to the nylon rope lure it makes the lure shimmy and shake and I think it creates more strikes.  Posted by Picasa

This is the kit for the Automatic Rod Tip Vibrator ( Three Pieces ) Also one installed on the rod. Note the pick up arm has the line. Easy to install just snaps on your rod. All you will need is a pair of pliers. Posted by Picasa

GAR FISHING WITH GARMAN & GARMANJACK

(garman) Bill Meyer arrived at my place on Lake Lanier in north Georgia last Monday morning about 9:00 for our annual once a year Gar fishing trip. Not the best day for Gar fishing, cloudy and a little breezy. The first hole we stopped in held several small Gar about two feet long we caught two or three of these. They were small but put up a good fight with some good jumps and tail walking and were a lot of fun. My camcorder is down so I didn’t get any action shots. Went on down the lake tried several more hot spots we did get some more hits from some small Gar that jumped and through the lure. We caught two off one shallow point, the first one hit like a missile up and out, tail walking like you would not believe. And people say why do you fish for gar? After we had our wonderful lunch that my wife of 60 years (last May) fixed for us, and Bill had a bag of large red cherries (so good) We swapped Gar stories, the Gar get bigger each time we tell them. If they get any bigger I’ll beat that state record of 28 ½ lbs. From the Flint River here in Georgia. My largest Gar was 26 lbs. Not very for off. (I had to throw that in). Along about 1:00 it was getting very hot and the sun had come out and the wind was still up, and we could not sight fish because of the ripples on the water. Finally we came to one of the points that I had very good luck on the past week (caught a bunch off this point). Bills first or second cast brought a smashing hit and the reel began to sing, Bill said I think I have a big one on, it ran under the middle of the pontoon boat and out the other side Bill jumped down off the sight casting platform rammed his rod down into the water then worked his way around the front while I raised the electric motor. Then the Gar made a spectacular jump three or four feet out of the water, what a sight, I’ve got to get that camcorder fixed. I’ve got a few pictures of Bill fighting that gar, and him holding it up. It was 13 lbs. and about 41 or 42 inches long that was the big one of the day. Bill was using one of my rods with 14 lb. Stren braided line and my ½ oz. – 8” long nylon tail. I had just equipped it with my new (automatic rod tip vibrator). Which I’m convinced has increased my bite ratio by 50% or more. It was about 1:30 and Bill had to get started back to Atlanta about a two hour drive. It was a very good day on the lake. Thanks Bill for coming down and spending a good day of Gar fishing with me. Just released and headed back down, see you later. Posted by Picasa
