DAVE'S LARGE SHELLCRACKER

I received this e-mail from my good friend Dave Rehr with this very large shellcracker (4lbs. - 3oz.) and would like to share it with all of you. Dave writes: I caught this 4lb. 3oz. shellcracker in 18 ft of water where Lake Marion empties into Lake Moultrie. There are large underwater bolders and the current is a bit swift. I used a 1 1/2 inch silver spoon with a treble hook fishing it deep and slow. I have caught stripers, bass, and even catfish using this meathod. This lure is rather large for shellcrackers but this was a large fish. It fought like a striper and I couldn't beleive my eyes when I saw it by the side of the boat. I immediately took the fish to be weighed and certifed correct weight.

Turns out if I had caught this fish six months sooner, it would have been a state record. Since my catch, a shellcracker over 5 pounds has been caught in the same area.
